Ontario Investing $57,936 to Build Accessible Dock at Boulevard Lake

Investment will help the City of Thunder Bay improve access to on-the-water programming for older adults and people with disabilities

THUNDER BAY — The Ontario government is investing $57,936 through the Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant to help the City of Thunder Bay improve accessibility at Boulevard Lake.
The funding will support the replacement of inaccessible infrastructure with new floating docks, gangways, an accessible canoe and kayak launch, and an improved path of travel. These upgrades will expand upon existing inclusive park infrastructure at Boulevard Lake and support a variety of on-the-water programming for older adults, people with disabilities, and residents of all abilities.
“Improving accessibility in our public spaces helps ensure more people can take part in the activities that make our communities such great places to live,” said Kevin Holland, MPP for Thunder Bay–Atikokan. “This investment will help make Boulevard Lake more inclusive and accessible, giving older adults, people with disabilities, and families more opportunities to safely enjoy outdoor recreation close to home.”
The Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant supports municipalities, non-profit organizations, and Indigenous governing bodies with funding for small capital projects and retrofits that help older adults and people with disabilities participate more fully in community life.
“Our government is continuing to make critical investments to ensure people of all ages and abilities stay active, engaged and connected to their communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “As we open applications for the EASE Grant, I encourage organizations across Ontario to come forward with projects that create accessible, welcoming and inclusive spaces.”
The Ontario government is supporting projects that help make communities more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for people of all ages and abilities.

Eligible organizations must apply for an Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone Grant through Transfer Payment Ontario.
The EASE Grant replaces the EnAbling Change Program and the Inclusive Community Grants Program to maximize impact for older adults and people living with disabilities.
