THUNDER BAY — As part of our government’s continued commitment to protecting and strengthening Ontario’s public health system, the Ontario government is investing up to $60.09 million in one-time funding to support public health programs and services across the province in 2025–26.

This investment will be distributed to 29 Public Health Units to support local public health initiatives, service delivery priorities, and frontline programs that communities rely on every day.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit, which serves the Thunder Bay area, will receive $1,089,805 in one-time funding as part of this provincial investment.

“This one-time funding will help the Thunder Bay District Health Unit continue delivering critical public health programs in our region,” said MPP Kevin Holland. “I want to thank the staff on the ground for the work they do every day, and our government for supporting strong and effective public health services.”

This one-time investment reflects our government’s ongoing focus on maintaining a strong, effective public health system while ensuring taxpayer dollars are used responsibly to deliver results for communities across Ontario.

“This one-time funding from the province is a welcome investment in critical infrastructure and local public health priorities,” said Dr. Janet DeMille, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of Thunder Bay District Health Unit. “It will support ongoing vaccine programming and enhance our work in food security, and improving access to fruits and vegetables for school-aged children and youth.”
