Improving Access to Timely Addictions Care in Northwestern Ontario

News Release | May 8th, 2026

THUNDER BAY — The Ontario government is expanding access to addictions treatment services at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care by increasing base funding for its Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) program.

Through the province’s mental health and addictions strategy, Roadmap to Wellness, the Ministry of Health is supporting the expansion of Addictions Day and Evening Treatment programming. These services are designed to help individuals with moderate to severe substance use challenges who are unable to attend residential treatment, including parents with dependent children, individuals maintaining employment, and students.

Beginning in the 2025–26 fiscal year, the Ministry of Health will provide Ontario Health with up to $1 million in new annualized funding to expand Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinics, along with up to $2.3 million in new annualized funding to enhance Addictions Day and Evening Treatment programs

As part of this investment, Dilico Anishinabek Family Care will receive $200,000 through the RAAM program to help improve rapid access to addictions care in the region.

“This investment is an important step forward in improving access to addictions care in Northwestern Ontario,” said The Hon. Kevin Holland MPP for Thunder Bay - Atikokan. “By expanding RAAM day and evening treatment options, we are ensuring that more people can receive the support they need while continuing to meet their responsibilities at home, at work, and in their communities.”

The expansion of these services will help reduce barriers to care and ensure that more people across the region have access to high-quality, culturally appropriate addictions treatment when and where they need it.
